    curator’s statement

"Shaw represents one of the younger generation of artists steeped in the Funk Art credo. His personal refinement of the Funk approach has resulted in objects with both a nostalgic and romantic flavor. COUCH AND CHAIR WITH LANDSCAPE AND COWS, illustrated here, is part of a tour de force series the artist has created which effectively unites the object with an environment. Shaw has constructed a notable series of houses in miniature, leaving one wall blank so the viewer can look into the lonely rooms which have back windows overlooking vacant, sad landscapes. Unlike many Funk artists, Shaw's craftsmanship is impeccable. Born in Hollywood, educated in San Francisco at San Francisco Art Institute under Ron Nagle and Jim Melchert, he also studied at Alfred University, and then received his master's degree at Davis." - Objects: USA exhibition catalog, Museum of Arts and Design, 1970.
