curator’s statement
Ferne Jacobs was a pioneer of fiber arts. To make her three-dimensional pieces, Ferne Jacobs uses ancient basketmaking techniques. She sees this as a connection between her work and works of the past. Over the years, her work has evolved from off-loom sculptural vessels and baskets to totemic forms to the more complex organic and unstructured pieces seen here.
