Rude Osolnik first learned crafts in high school, from his industrial arts teacher. He studied several craft media in college, specializing in woodturning. After marrying his wife in 1937, the two created a successful business called Osolnik Originals. In addition to crafting woodturned objects, Osolnik taught for more than fifty years; he spent many years (1937 through 1978) at Berea College in Kentucky, where he founded the furniture-making program.
