Cynthia NixonUnited States
After receiving her master's in art education from Pennsylvania State University, Nixon began quilting because it enabled her to work simultaneously with drawing, painting, and sewing. Influenced by the surge of feminist art in the 1970's, Nixon sought to take ownership of some of the more marginalized arts women have been practicing for centuries. Figurative imagery has become increasingly important in her work, as has a departure from the conventional soft fabrics associated with traditional quilting.
Education: B.A., Dickinson College, 1971; M.Ed., Penn State University School of Visual Arts, 1974.
