Michael JamesUnited States, b. 1949

Michael James was primarily a painter before he became interested in quilting in the 1970s. He was largely self taught in the medium, although his wife, a seamstress herself, did advise him on how to accomplish different techniques. Today, James is considered a leading quilter, and his works have been exhibited all over the world. He lectures and teaches workshops on color and design, and teaches textile design courses at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. In addition, he is the author of The Quiltmaker's Handbook: A Guide to Design and Construction and The Second Quiltmaker's Handbook: Creative Approaches to Contemporary Quilt Design.
