Philip MoulthropUnited States, b. 1947
Philip Moulthrop was apprentice to his father, Edward Moulthrop, and began turning wood at age ten. Like his father, he uses woods native to the American Southeast, tools of his own making, and has pioneered innovative woodturning techniques. In 1977, he left his career in law to focus on woodturning and developing his own style. His signature technique is one he developed in 1993 in which he creates turned wooden mosaics made from the cross-sections of tree branches, sawdust, and epoxy.
