Otto Natzler

The extraordinary partnership of Otto and Gertrud Natzler began in 1933, when they met in Vienna, and continued until Gertrud’s death in 1971, after which Otto worked on his own. Together they created thousands of vessels and sculptural forms. Each artist brought a special talent to the enterprise: the graceful shapes were generally thrown or built by Gertrud, and the richly colored and textured glazes were developed and applied by Otto. In 1938, the Natzlers immigrated to the United States under the Nazi threat, and they settled in California.
