Abraaj Capital Art Prize 2010August 31-October 10, 2010

The Museum of Arts and Design presents the 2010 Abraaj Capital Art Prize winners. The coveted prize, in its second year, was established to raise awareness of the under-represented work being created by artists from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia (MENASA) region. The prize recipients are: artist Hala Elkoussy, from Egypt, and Jelle Bouwhuis, curator at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam; artist Marwan Sahmarani from Lebanon and Lebanese-Spanish curator Mahita El Bacha Urieta; and artist Abdel Kader Attia from Algeria and curator Laurie Ann Farrell, Executive Director of Exhibitions for the Savannah College of Art and Design in the United States.

The Abraaj Capital Art Prize, established by the Dubai-based private equity company Abraaj Capital, provides international exposure to artists from the MENASA region, aiming to empower contemporary artists from this culturally rich and diverse area. The prize encourages collaborations between artists and internationally acclaimed curators, bridging the gap between the Middle Eastern and Western art worlds and offering these artists opportunities to realize ambitious art projects and gain recognition beyond their immediate cultural environment.

The Abraaj Capital Art Prize is made possible through the support of Abraaj Capital.
