Albert PaleyUnited States, b. 1944

Paley began his career as a goldsmith, crafting fine jewelry, before he turned his attention to architectural and large-scale, site-specific metalwork. After completing his B.F.A. and M.F.A. at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, Paley moved to Rochester, New York and began a long commitment to teaching at several institutions. He has earned many awards throughout his career, including the Institute Honors Award from the American Institute of Architects, and has been commissioned to create gates, staircases, and other architectural elements in many cities throughout the world. In fact, the Portal Gates that Paley fashioned for the Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution have been deemed the "most important metal works of useful arts since Louis Sullivan's Art Nouveau iron work in Chicago at the turn of the century."
