Artist Info
Edwin ScheierUnited States, 1910–2008

Like Otto and Gertrud Natzler, Edwin and Mary Scheier worked collaboratively until Mary Scheier’s death in 2007. Their sixty-nine-year partnership began with a stint as itinerant puppeteers during the Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project. In 1938, the Scheiers established a ceramic studio. Mary’s talent was in throwing the pots, and Edwin assumed much of the responsibility for glazing. However, they both created sculptures in clay as well—generally figural studies but also animals.
