William Wyman
Wyman has been a professional potter since 1953. Currently he operates the Herring Run Pottery in East Weymouth, Massachusetts, which produces individually crafted functional and nonfunctional stoneware objects, from hanging planters to architectural murals. Simultaneously, Wyman has had far-reaching influence through teaching and work. A few years ago he created a series of slab vessels, probing the possibilities of the form to its utmost. Most memorable were the slab pots with surfaces sgraffitoed with cartoons, poems, and catch phrases relating to contemporary jazz, rock-and-roll, and other popular expressions. Recently he has been working on a series of crosses, some starkly dignified with hard-edge lines, suggesting wreaths or material caught on the crossbar. Wyman's works have been shown in most major national and international ceramic exhibitions.
