Masamichi YoshikawaJapan, b. 1946

Contemporary ceramist Masamichi Yoshikawa was born in 1946 in Chigasaki City. He attended the Japanese Design Academy and began working in ceramics studios for artists such as Junpei Sugie. In 1975, he established his own studio in Tokoname where he produced his trademark blue and white ceramic artworks. His work has been displayed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and in solo exhibitions in countries such as Japan, Germany and Switzerland. His art at the Museum of Fine Arts was featured as part of the exhibition Japanese Ceramics for the New Century. Among his awards is the Grand Prize at the First Taiwan International Ceramics Biennale in 2004. Yoshikawa has been working as a Professor at the School of Art and Formative Art at Nagoya University of Arts for the last several years.
