William Daley's large-scale ceramic vessels are both architectural and geometric. He purposely left them unglazed, in the reddish-brown bisque fired state, in order to draw attention to form and line. The interiors and exteriors of the vessels are given equal status in the overall composition of the piece, emphasizing the interplay of concave and convex and of positive and negative. Daley worked very deliberately with his clay, making sketches, full-scale plans and elevations, and templates prior to the final product.
