Olga de AmaralColombia, b. 1932
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Olga de Amaral studied fabric design at the prestigious Cranbrook Academy in Michigan. During the 1960's, de Amaral played an important role in transforming traditional two-dimensional textiles into sculptural works of art. She later became the director of the textiles department at the Universidad de los Andes (University of the Andes) in Bogotá. Her work has earned her international acclaim, and she has participated in exhibitions and has received commissions from around the world.
