Artist Info
Robert W. EbendorfUnited States, b. 1938

One of America's premier jewelry artists, celebrated for his imaginative combinations of materials, Robert Ebendorf began his career in 1963 when he traveled to Norway on a Fulbright scholarship and was introduced to Scandinavian design concepts. In the mid 1960s, he established himself as an innovative jeweler by abandoning gemstones and precious metals for discarded remnants. His active curiosity has led to the pioneering inclusion in his work of a wide variety of materials, ranging from Korean newspapers to natural river stones, Formica to discarded consumer goods. Ebendorf has also been an influential professor for over forty years. He taught at the State University of New York at New Paltz from 1971 to 1989 and currently is a professor at the East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
