Cristiano Bianchin
Cristiano Bianchin graduated from the Accademia de Belle Arti in his native Venice with a degree in painting in 1987. After exploring many genres, from drawing to hemp weaving, he began designing glass for execution by master glass blowers when he was awarded a studio and exhibition space in 1992. After exploring the use of color in the Murano tradition, in 1995, he began experimenting with monochrome treatments. Recently, his work reflects the influence of natural forms, especially nests and seeds. These pieces are notable for their exploration of light and shade and for their incorporation of woven hemp. Bianchin's work is outstanding for its provocative imagery combining and contrasting two traditional materials and processes with a strong contemporary sensitivity to form and sculptural presence.
