David EllsworthUnited States, b. 1944

David Ellsworth began woodturning in 1958, when he was fourteen. He earned his Master's Degree in sculpture, learning to work with a large variety of materials and processes. It was his experience working in clay that led him to consider using the vessel form in his woodturning. By the mid-1970s, he had developed his own carving tools that allowed him to produce the thin-walled hollow forms for which he is most known.
