David GilhoolyUnited States, 1943 – 2013
David Gilhooly began his artistic career as a studio assistant for Robert Arneson in the early 1960s. By the 1970s, he had gained national attention for his often irreverent and wild ceramics. Gilhooly gave up the use of ceramics in the mid 1980s, in favor of Plexiglas, synthetics, and found objects. In addition to making his quirky, pop culture-inspired works, he has taught at several colleges and universities.
