Gijs BakkerNetherlands, b. 1942
Gijs Bakker was trained as a jeweler and industrial designer. He attended the Instituut voor Kunstnijverheidsonderwijs in Amsterdam and the Konstfack Skolan in Stockholm. He worked as a designer of jewelry and furniture accessories for numerous companies such as Van Kempen & Begeer, and in the 1960's he collaborated with his wife Emmy van Leersum in producing minimalist and modern jewelry designs dubbed 'Dutch Smooth.' Bakker has been a professor at the Design Academy in Eindhoven since 1987. In 1993, he co-founded the influential Droog Design Company.
