Jun KanekoJapan, b. 1942
Jun Kaneko trained as a painter, apprenticing with a Japanese artist for four years, before switching to ceramics. In 1963, he was invited to view a collection of contemporary ceramics and immediately became enamored with the possibilities of clay. Since then, Kaneko has become famous for his large-scale ceramic pieces (some are 11 feet high) and the colorful, geometric glazes he uses on them. In addition to his artistic production, he taught art from 1972 to 1986, at the University of New Hampshire, Scripps College, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Education: California Institute of Art, 1964; University of California, Berkeley, 1966; Claremont Graduate School, 1970
