Marilyn Levine
Marilyn Levine (born Marilyn Hayes) studied chemistry, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in the subject. Because of the scarcity of teaching jobs for women in the sciences, she turned to ceramics in the late 1960s. She moved to the Bay Area, where the California Funk scene was centered. Following her studies with Peter Voulkos, she developed her trompe l'oeil style, the imitation of well-worn leather goods in exacting and precise detail. She taught art at several colleges, including the Universities of Utah and California, Berkeley.
Education: B.S. in chemistry, University of Alberta in Edmonton; M.S. in chemistry, University of Alberta in Edmonton; M.A., University of California, Berkeley (1970); M.F.A., University of California, Berkeley (1971)
