Charles Loloma began his career as a painter in San Francisco in 1939. Beginning in 1945, he attended Alfred University, studying ceramics and earning his journeyman certificate from the School for American Craftsmen. For several years after this, he worked on his jewelry and ceramics and opened a shop in Scottsdale, Arizona. Loloma was also an instructor, teaching classes at Arizona State University in Sedona and at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Loloma passed away in 1991.
