James Melchert

James Melchert was one of the many artists who found their way to the University of California, Berkeley, to study with the legendary ceramist Peter Voulkos. Melchert developed a unique approach to the medium of clay that was a complete departure from traditional, functional pottery; he created unconventional forms with equally unorthodox materials.
