Bruce MetcalfUnited States, b. 1949
Metcalf came into sculpture and metalworking via university studies in liberal arts and architecture. After earning his M.F.A. from Tyler School of Art, he began a private studio practice. In 1986 he started teaching Jewelry/Metals at Kent University, and later at Tyler School of Art and University of the Arts, Philadelphia. Though labeled a "jeweler," many of Metcalf's pieces defy classification as such; devoid of function, and heavy with content, much of his work is better described as small sculpture. Metcalf has been an active contributor to writing on the subjects of jewelry and craft.
