Joel Philip Myers
After attending Parsons School of Design, Myers began his artistic career as a packaging and graphic designer. He returned to school to study ceramic design at Alfred University, and subsequently worked as Director for Design at the Blenko Glass Company in Milton, West Virginia. His exposure to the American studio glass movement in the early 1960s combined with his knowledge of industrial glass making techniques learned at Blenko inspired him to experiment with glass. In 1970, Myers left Blenko to establish a studio practice, and set up a glassblowing program at Illinois State University, where he taught for nearly 30 years.
