BiographyAkio Takamori was apprenticing for a folk potter in Koishiwara, Japan, when he saw a traveling exhibition of contemporary ceramics and was inspired to abandon industrial pottery. He then moved to the United States and studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and Alfred University. He was a resident artist at the Archie Bray Foundation in Missoula, Montana. In 1993, he began teaching ceramics at the University of Washington, Seattle and still teaches there today.Education: B.F.A., Kansas City Art Institute, 1976; M.F.A., New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, 1978
