BiographyHermann Junger was born and raised in Hanau, Germany, a town known for its gold- and silversmithing traditions. In 1947, Junger began studies on goldsmithing, silversmithing, and design at the Staatliche Zeichenakademie (State Drawing Academy). Also influential throughout his career were his studies with Franz Rickert, one of Germany's most acclaimed goldsmiths, at the Akademie der Bildenden Kunste (Academy of Creative Arts) in Munich. In 1972, he replaced Rickert as the director of the goldsmith's program at the Akademie, where he continued for many years to be of great significance to the growth of contemporary jewelry.
