Original locationHuntington, Pennsylvania, United States
Biography"Miller is one of the foremost goldsmiths in the U.S. His name is virtually synonymous with the technique of granulation, the art of embellishing a gold surface with infinitesimal spheres of gold, some as tiny as 1/200 of an inch in diameter. The technique reached its greatest peak in the Etruscan culture between the eighth and the second centuries B.C. Miller has brought this ancient art to its highest degree of refinement in contemporary jewelry. As indicated in ARMORED POLYP Miller's jewels are customarily derived from animal or crustacean forms. In his personal adaptations he exploits materials to the utmost in achieving a full measure of elegance. Miller's work has been shown extensively in such prestigious exhibitions as the 1958 Brussels World's Fair and the 1962 London Jewelry International. His many one-man shows have included those at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Contemporary Crafts (New York)."Education: Cleveland Institute of Art, Handy and Harmon Silversmithing Conference, School for American Craftsmen (Rochester), Institute of Technology (with Baron Erik Fleming)
