Biography"Soon after his military service, which ended in 1954, Cushing entered the College of Ceramics at Alfred University, New York, and has since devoted his career to potting. He works mainly within traditional container forms, and his creations are distinguished by their excellence of execution and the subtleties of the glazes. Now an associate professor of pottery at Alfred, he continues the tradition there of helping students learn the rules of ceramics before encouraging them to be broken."Education: Alfred University (New York), B.F.A. 1952; M.F.A. 1956
