BiographyMaster potter Maija Grotell studied ceramics in Finland prior to her arrival in the United States in 1927, where she became one of this country’s most prominent and infl uential ceramists. She was also a respected teacher at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and head of their ceramics department from 1938 to 1966. Herwork has been collected by major art museums throughout the United States, and her contributions acknowledged by numerous international awards.
