BiographyBorn in 1928 in Kyoto, Japan, Yasuo Hayashi began his career as a painter, studying painting at the Kyoto Arts and Crafts School. In 1945, he enrolled at the Kyoto Art University, but he withdrew the next year to revive the family pottery business after World War II. Studying ceramics with his father until 1968, Hayashi joined several avant-garde artist groups, including the Shiko-Kai, associated with surrealism and abstract painting.
