BiographyDavid Freda began his artistic career as a wildlife illustrator, an occupation that grew out of his childhood interest in insects, reptiles and other wildlife. After taking a jewelry course out of practical necessity - he was flying birds of prey and needed to make bells to tie their feet - he began his career as a metalsmith. Influenced by the work of Marsha Lewis, Freda spent a year as an artist in residence at the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts and then moved to New Paltz, New York where he started graduate studies in metalwork. He now creates intricate enameled jewelry that incorporates his love and respect for the creatures of the natural world. Education: B.F.A., University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, 1979
