BiographyRichard Marquis was first exposed to glassblowing while studying ceramics at the University of California at Berkeley in the late 1960s. After studying under Marvin Lipofsky and Peter Voulkos, Marquis was awarded a Fullbright Fellowship to travel to Murano, Italy to observe and work with studio glassblowers, mastering the use of murrine for which he is best known. His work is lively, and humerous and often incorporates found objects. He has maintained an internationally known and respected studio practice for over forty years and has also taught glassblowing at numerous schools and workshops.
