BiographySince she first began making art at age 16, Mary Lee Hu has worked almost exclusively in jewelry. Her continued experiments in weaving metals, which she began in the late 1960s, have been praised by jewelers and scholars for their superior use of technique and their beauty. Hu has had a long teaching career, instructing students for over thirty years. She is now a professor in the Metals department at the University of Washington in Seattle.
