BiographyBoris Bally was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1961. In 1979, after finishing high school, he apprenticed with the Alexander Schaffner Goldsmeid in Basel, Switzerland. During his one-year apprenticeship, Bally began to think about the relationship between art and recycling, having observed the reuse of materials in the metalsmith trade due to the high price of gold. He extended this practice to non-precious metals, which he handled with the same kind of care. In 1984, Bally completed his BFA in metals from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In 2002, Boris Bally received a fellowship in design from the Rhode Island Council on the Arts. His work can be found in numerous collections including the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution in New York; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Indiana University Art Museum, Bloomington; and Goldschmiedgesellschaft, Torsten Bröhan, Hanau in Germany.
